SULEHRIS

SULEHRIS
The Suleria / Sulehria / Sulahria / Salaria / Salehria / Suleri / Sulehri are a Clan of Chandravanshi Rajputs . The Sikh and Hindu Sulehria live in India. The Muslim Sulehria are considered a clan of Muslim Rajputs and nearly all live in Pakistan. A part of Muslim Sulehrias live in Jammu & Kashmir, on both sides the border.

Origin

The history of the Suleria is well documented in the Census Report of the Punjab 1883 by Denzil Ibbetson, and the Census report of the Punjab 1892, by H.A. Rose.
a tribe of Rajputs who trace their descent from one Raja Saigal or Shal of fabulous antiquity, and from his descendent Chandra Gupta. They say that their eponymous ancestor came from Deccan in the time of Sultan Mamdah as commander of a force sent to suppress the insurection of Shuja* (*Shaikha is the usual form of his name) and settled in Sialkot; and that his descendents turned Muslim in the time of Bahlol Lodi. They are for the most part Muhammadans, but still employ Brahmans. As a rule they do not marry within the tribe.
The Sulehrias, as they came to be known, settled around Sialkot during Bahlul Lodi's rule and then intermarried amongst the various Jatt & Rajput tribes.Accrording to Najmuttawarikh by Munshi Natiq, 25 Rajas of Sulehria clan who ruled Sultanate of Punjab {Lahore} for a long time. Some of them were Maha Raja Kedar,Singal,Hem Aria,Ajayse.Jaypal,Anandpal Etc.All the Sulehrias(Muslim,Hindu and Sikh) belong to Rajput origin. They had no connection with Arabs and Quraish. However according to Tarekh e Jalila written by Ghulam Dastgir Nami Raja Sahn Pal Suleria and his descendents accepted islam by the preach of Hazrat Abdul Jalil Chorh Bandgi Qureshi in the reign of Bahlol Lodhi, while his other brother Raja Jeet Pal Sulehria and his descendents remain on Hindu religion.Books for more studyRajput Qabail,Rajput Goutain,Rajput Nama,Tarekhe Rajputan,Tarekhe Makhzne Punjab,Aqwame Poonch,Aqwame Kashmir,Aqwame Punjab,Sialkot Gazetteer,History of Sialkot and Rajput Qabail by Raja Sarwar Sulehria..Mr.Prof.Azeem Sulehria is working on the history and personalities of the sulehria caste.

Sulehris were mainly followers of the Islam, however there were some voluntary conversions to the Sikh faith due to the rise of Sikhism in the Punjab regio and due to the Sulehris settling and mixing with the people of Punjab for so many generations. There are many well educated successful Sulehris in India today, they go by the name Salaria and identify strongly from their Rajput heritage. Many Sikh Sulehris successfully work in the fields of medicine, Army and commerce. Note All the Sulehrias should use the correct name of their clan.SULEHRIA or SULEHRI
